Answers

  1. Whose name should I enter as User Name when I register?

The User Name should be the full name ( First Name + space + Last Name ) of the one person using the license.

Do not specify a company name, a project name, the name of the person who purchased the license ( unless he is also the one user ), or the name of a manager ( unless he is also the one user )

Remember - Each license is registered for development use by one individual only - the User Name should be that person's name.

If you are registering the license then you should be the only person developing projects with the control - ie: loading any project based on the control in any design time environment for any reason ( coding, gui changes, compiling, testing, code review, etc. )

  2. Do end users of a compiled application created with a Bennet-Tec control require a License from Bennet-Tec?

    Are there any Royalties?

No, End-users of a compiled EXE or web page built with a Bennet-Tec control do not require a license and there is NO Royalty .

Users of other applications running in a run-time only mode ( for instance run-time only Access MDE databases also do not require a license)

User of environments such as MS Word which do not offer run-time only support do require licenses.

  3. How many individuals can use a single license?

Each license is valid for just one individual developer.

A developer is any individual creating or loading a project into any design time environment where that project is based around a Bennet-Tec component or based on any other component or wrapper itself built around a Bennet-Tec component.

If you are registering the license then you should be the only person Coding, making GUI changes, Compiling, Testing, Conducting Code Review, or any other design time or development task related to projects written aroudn a Bennet-Tec componeent.

  4. Can licenses be shared?

No, a separate license should be purchased for each individual working on a project. Licenses must be purchased for anyone opening a form, Dialog, or Class, or component control built around a Bennet-Tec control, whether to write code, for testing, or simply to review code.

  5. Can licenses be transferred?

Licenses can be transferred, but only with written approval from Bennet-Tec, and only within a company.

To transfer any license to a new user ,

    a) Let us know the license serial number

    b) Let us know the name of the previous user

    c) Confirm that the previous user is no longer going to be working on any TList based projects ( unless he gets another license for such use ) and that he has removed the license from any computer on which he has installed the license.

    d) Let us know the name and e-mail address of the new user.

Please cc your e-mail transfer request to both ourselves and to the previous user.

  6. Can I incorporate a Bennet-Tec control in my own component control?

Yes - BUT - Each individual developer using an component control built around a Bennet-Tec control, or loading a project based on such component into a design environment , must also purchase a seperate license from Bennet-Tec.

  7. Do I really need a separate license for project members working on other areas of the application, if I am the only one working with code based on the Bennet-Tec control?

YES - every individual opening your project in the software development or web design environment must have a license.

This includes individuals working on other areas of code in the project, compiling, reviewing the code within the design environment, or testing within the design environment.

No license is required for testers running a compiled EXE, or for reviewing code in an ASCII text editor.

  8. Are Site Licenses available?

Yes - contact our sales department for further information.

  9. How many computers may I install the license on?

You may install your license on up to 3 computers at one time, So it is possible to install on your office computer, a computer at home, and a laptop. Or to install on a Win 95 machine, Win 98, and Win NT * BUT * these computers must all be used by the same individual. Remember each license is valid for just one individual.

  10. How can I remove a license from my computer?

For MetaDraw 3, MetaDraw for .Net, TList 5, TList 6, TList 7, TList 8, & TList for .Net users click the UnRegister button on the License Registration Tab. This will UnRegister the conctrol. You must e-mail the User Name, Serial Number & Machine Key to us at Support_License@Bennet-Tec.Com or by fax to 1-516-997-5597 so we can remove that machine from our data base which allows you to install on another Machine.

For all other products - This will allow you to download a WinZip File that contains a License Removal Application. Un-Zip the file and run the BTLicRemoval.exe, Select the appropriate product Icon on the left and click the remove license button. This will unregister your Bennet-Tec control and create a file called License Removal Notice.txt. Print out the file and fill in the requested info and fax it to the phone number supplied in the document. After we receive this document we will delete the registration information from our data base, which will allow other machines to be registered.

  11. Why do I see a license warning even after I registered my license?

    There are several possibilities:

If an individual without a license opened your project files, possibly to review the code or to work on another part of the project, then his / her unlicensed status would have been stored in the project when that individual closed the project. - Remember each individual working in development mode requires a separate license.

If you last opened the project while working in demonstration mode, the demonstration mode status may have been saved as part of the project. Open and resave each form using the control. Do this one form at a time. Then do a full project recompile

If you have installed a new operating system or a new hard drive partition the Machine ID may have changed, in this case you need to re-register your license.

If you registered your license on a computer or when using a windows account without full admin priveledges the license registration may not have been properly recorded

If you are developing your applications while logged into a different windows account than the one used when your registered your license, the license will not be recognized. You must be logged into the same Windows account when you register your license and when you are doing development.

If your application is trying to create a new instance of the component at Run-Time the license may not be recognized. You should place the component on you form within the design time environment. Contact Bennet-Tec support if your application requirements demand run-time creation.

If you are using a special feature requiring an add-on license option ( such as DXF support for MetaDraw ) and if you do not have this license option, you will see a warning when you try to execute a line of code utilizing this feature.

  12. How can I confirm my license is properly registered on my computer

Place a new instance of the component on a new form in a new project at design time. You should NOT see any Demo notice if your license is properly registered.

  13. How do I register my license if my computer is not connected to the Internet?

You can use the Off-Line tab of the license registration system. You will be asked here for a Registration code. You can get the registration code using any other computer to access our web registration page:
License Registration (for off-line users after purchase)

  14. Can I use the same Registration code on Multiple Machines for Off-Line Registration

No. The registration code is uniquely determined by the combination of User Name, Serial Number and Machine ID Code.

If using the Off-Line tab of the license utility you should get a new Registration code for each computer from the Registration page of our web site. Remember - you can register on up to 3 computers but you should be the only user of all three computers - each license is valid for one iperson only.

  15. Where can I get more information?

To write to us with your License Questions

Please include your serial number or let us know if you are still working with the control in demonstration mode prior to purchase of a license.
